LaLiga North America Launches First Academy in Canada

World-class scouting & development program aligns with Canada’s goal to elevate level of soccer in preparation for the 2026 World Cup

Toronto, Canada – 16 April 2019 – LaLiga North America announced the launch of LaLiga Academy Canada today, the Spanish League’s first academy in North America. The academy will offer a world-class development program and pathway to professional soccer careers and university scholarships.

LaLiga Academy will deliver the highest standard of Spanish soccer training directly from UEFA Pro-certified LaLiga coaches. Players will be taught best practices from the top LaLiga clubs using LaLiga Methodology. LaLiga’s superior training method teaches not only soccer techniques, skills and fitness to hone players for competitive matches, but also emphasizes the importance of high-stakes decision making, physical, emotional and cognitive development. The Academy will also have a dedicated development program for coaches.

This new initiative aligns with the mission of Canada to produce a sustainable pipeline of world-class professional players for Canadian clubs and the national team. LaLiga wants to support the growth of soccer in the country and witness its success, leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and help develop the country’s next generation of stars.

The launch of LaLiga Academy Canada was announced today at a press conference at the Westin Harbour Castle, Toronto, which was attended by Boris Gartner, CEO LaLiga North America, and Mr. Hussein Murad, CEO, Inspiratus Canada as well as high level dignitaries, LaLiga executives and other distinguished guests.

"Canada is a country with great passion for soccer and through this partnership, we believe that youth soccer development will grow and excel," said LaLiga North America CEO Boris Gartner. "There is no shortage of talented young players in Canada and we look forward to working with them to reach their full potential using LaLiga’s highest standards."

Gartner said, "At LaLiga Academy, youth from across Canada will benefit from training by the strongest league in the world, at the same levels as that delivered at LaLiga clubs in Spain, while providing top talent with a clear pathway to pro-soccer careers or to pursue soccer scholarships at top universities in Canada and the US. Ultimately, we are here to help advance and grow soccer in the nation, dedicating the finest professional coaches and operations to discover, develop and retain the best talent in Canada."

Commenting on LaLiga Academy launch in Canada, Hussein Murad, CEO, Inspiratus Canada, the operating company for LaLiga Academy in Canada, said: "We chose Canada in recognition of the wealth of soccer talent that exists here and we want to provide them with this unique opportunity that will not only fast track their development with the highest coaching standard worldwide. The Academy’s success around the world attests to the winning LaLiga model, which is not only about developing physical skills but equally about adopting a winning professional soccer mindset."

LaLiga Academy will be open to boys and girls in the age categories of U6 to U18. All players will have a personalized development program, with top youth talent joining the year-long intensive training program at the LaLiga High Performance Centre (HPC), a by-invitation only professional development center run by LaLiga coaches. HPC will also offer educational seminars for coaches looking to learn from the highest level of coaching standards worldwide.

Elite players from HPC will be selected to participate in the annual LaLiga High Performance Summer Training Camp in Spain, an intensive 21-day camp providing youth with real-life international soccer experience, through competitive matches against top LaLiga youth clubs and intensive training in the celebrated ‘LaLiga’ way.

The first locations for LaLiga Academy Canada will be within the Greater Toronto Area. This will be followed by an expansion into other provinces such as Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta and others over the coming period.

Training will kick off in key GTA locations, including Downsview Park – Toronto, Paramount Fine Foods Center – Mississauga, Canlan Sportsplex - Mississauga and Karlovac Park – Milton, with sessions offered six days a week.
